Bio
I have been involved with horses all my life, but my search for a better way to handle and train them began during my early years as a veterinarian. I was often asked to work with horses that had never been taught to stand quietly or feel confident with routine procedures. Fear and confusion could quickly turn these situations into stressful, and often dangerous experiences for the horse, owner and veterinary team.
My aim is to help owners understand how horses learn, communicate more clearly and help horses become calm, confident, and resilient.
I am a huge advocate of groundwork. Good groundwork sets both horse and handler up for success and gives the horse the skills and confidence to cope with unfamiliar or unexpected situations — from veterinary examinations, injections and hospital visits to travelling, competitions and new environments.
I also believe strongly in looking at the whole picture. Training does not exist in isolation, so I consider the horse’s living environment, management, social contact, forage and freedom, as well as the needs, confidence and goals of the rider.
