Rowan grew up near Yass, New South Wales, where he developed an early passion for horses through pony club and stock work.

After leaving school, Rowan pursued a career with horses and completed a Certificate III in Horse Husbandry through Tocal Agricultural College, graduating in 2008. In 2009, he commenced a traineeship at the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre (AEBC) in Victoria, where he developed extensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills through working with a large volume of horses under the guidance of Dr Andrew and Manuela McLean.

After four years at AEBC, Rowan continued to expand his experience and expertise through international opportunities. In 2022, Rowan, his wife Michelle and their children moved to Germany for three years, where he worked as a young horse trainer for Warwick and Carolina McLean at McLean Reitsport.

Rowan is now based near Gatton, Queensland, between Brisbane and Toowoomba, where he operates his own horse training business. His knowledge of learning theory is considerable and is complemented by extensive practical experience in foundation training, ongoing professional education, conflict resolution and coaching.

Rowan brings a valuable combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skill and real-world experience to his role with Equitation Science International as an ESI Nominated Coach. He is a valuable resource in training students in the practical components of the Diploma of Equitation Science.
