Bio
Life with horses started at Cambridge Riding Centre in Mooroolbark, Victoria, where I was intrigued by horses from a young age. Curiosity grew through childhood into my twenties. My career meandered around corporate training and management in large corporations for 10 years then wound its way back to educating horses and riders. Realigning careers to find a balance between teaching adults and training horses was a natural progression.
I think our challenge with horses is to find a balance between leadership and freedom – to move past correction, into connection. For me, it means freedom with safe conditions; giving them a sense of control by helping them predict what to do with our cues. Teaching them how to succeed with us, how to read our language, in order have a working dialogue. And, teaching riders how to listen to horses in order to find control within freedom.
I encourage deep curiosity and open-mindedness with horses, and trust that most problems can be resolved safely and progressively with knowledge and understanding of what each horse needs. Success comes from timely attention to detail in a way that preserves the horse’s nature and dignity. Ease and lightness are not out of reach for the average rider or average horse. When aids are clear, minimal and understood, responses become willing, expressive and graceful.
