Bio

Tayla is an Equitation Science practitioner who is passionate about applying evidence-based, welfare-centred principles to horse training and handling across all sectors of the equine industry. Her interest in Equitation Science led her to undertake a working pupil position at the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre (AEBC), after which she remained with the centre as a trainee trainer for 18 months before returning to New Zealand.

Tayla has broad, hands-on experience across multiple areas of the equine industry, including coaching, foundation training (starting), behaviour modification, float training, ground work, general performance schooling as well as competing in eventing, show jumping and dressage. Alongside her sport horse background, she has extensive experience within the racing industry, including track work, stud duties, and yearling preparation. This diverse experience provides her with a well-rounded understanding of the practical expectations of the wider equine industry.

She is currently completing a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, with a growing focus on integrating equitation science into equine veterinary practice. Tayla’s work is grounded in ethical training principles, evidence-based handling, and a practical understanding of the realities faced by owners, trainers, and veterinarians, aiming to bridge the gap between science, horse welfare, and industry application.
